Glossary of terms
Access levels
Every Entry has an access level that controls other users' ability to view
and modify its information. The four access levels are personal, confidential,
normal and public. Give other users the right to view or edit Entries of
various access levels in the Access Rights dialog box (Tools | Options
| Access Rights).
Access Rights
Assign Access Rights to other users in order to control how much of your
Agenda information they can view and edit. Use the Access Rights dialog
box (Tools | Options | Access Rights).
Address Book
Store extensive information about friends, family or co-workers. Export
your Address Books in a variety of file formats and create customized filters
to sort your Address Book Entries.
Attendance Status
A person or Resource's attendance status indicates whether they have accepted
an Entry, refused it or will confirm their attendance status later. Check
attendance status in the General tab of the Entry.
Authentication
When configuring your connection to a server, you may be able to choose
an authentication mechanism, which instructs the client on how to authenticate
against the server. Most mechanisms involve the use of a user name and
password, but your server may be set up to support a ticket-based mechanism
such as Kerberos. Please consult your system administrator for more information.
Compression
When configuring your connection to a server, you may wish to enable compression.
This reduces the number of bytes passing between your CorporateTime client
and the server. Over a high speed local area network, there is little advantage
to enabling compression; however, you may want to configure an alternative
compression-enabled connection for use over a dial-up connection.
Conflicts
Conflicts are found when you propose a Meeting for a time during which
one of the people or Resources you invite already has another Meeting booked.
When you create a Meeting, click Check conflicts in the General
tab.
Connection
A connection is a collection of settings saved under one name, and is used
to connect to your calendar server. The settings include the name of the
server, the node and the authentication, compression, and encryption mechanisms
to use when connecting.
Daily Notes
Create Daily Notes as notes to yourself. Invite others, make your Daily
Notes repeating, set Reminders and Access levels. Daily Notes do not block
off any time in your Agenda.
Date Control
Click the Calendar button in any dialog box to set a date using the Date
Control. Click a date to select it. Move backwards and forwards through
months by using the arrow buttons or click a specific date to select it.
Click Today to select the current date.
Day Events
Create Day Events to mark special occasions and other important dates.
Invite others, make your Day Events repeating, set Reminders and Access
levels. Day Events do not block off any time in your Agenda.
Defaults
Defaults are automatic values assigned to new Entries by your Agenda. Select
Tools | Options | Entry Defaults to change the default values for your
Meetings, Day Events, Daily Notes and Tasks.
Designates
Designates are users with the power to create and modify Entries on behalf
of another user. Select Tools | Options | Access Rights to give designate
rights to your Agenda to other users.
Encryption
When configuring your connection to a server, you may wish to enable encryption,
to ensure that the data you pass between your CorporateTime client and
the server is encrypted. There are several encryption mechanisms from which
to choose. If you have a secure connection to the server, you may wish
not to use encryption, or you may wish to use one of the basic mechanisms.
On less secure networks, however, you may wish to use a stronger encryption
mechanism.
Entries
Entries are the individual items that appear in your Agenda. Meetings,
Daily Notes, Day Events, Holidays and Tasks are all types of Entries. Names
in your Address Book, as well as the associated information, are called
Address Book Entries.
Groups
Make scheduling your Entries simpler by creating Groups of users. Select
Tools | Manage Groups to create and edit your Groups. You can only edit
Groups that you created.
There are four types of Groups:
-
[PUB]: Public Groups can be used by any person on the system.
-
[PRV]: Private Groups can only be used or edited by its creator.
-
[ADM]: Administrative Groups can be used by anyone on the system and can
only be edited by those people who have been granted administrative rights.
-
[MEM]: Members-Only Groups can only be used by its members and edited by
its owner. Users that are on a different server node can be included in
members-only Groups. but they cannot view such Groups.
Importance levels
When you create and edit Meetings, set their Importance levels on the Options
tab. Choose from the five settings: highest, high, normal, low, and lowest.
Local Users
Local users and Resources are on the same node as you, unlike remote users
and Resources which are on a different node.
Meetings
Meetings are Entries that take up a specific amount of time in your Agenda.
You can invite other users and Resources to your Meetings, and set them
to repeat at an interval that you specify.
Nodes
A node is a calendar database on the server and is identified by a number
or name. Every user and every Resource belongs to a node. A remote node
is another node on the local calendar server.
Off-line
You can work in your Agenda in the on-line or off-line mode. When you work
off-line, you are not connected to the calendar server. You can only see
calendar information in Agendas you have chosen to download. You can still
create and edit calendar Entries normally, but your changes will not be
put directly into the server's database. The server database will be updated
the next time you log on to the server and perform a reconciliation.
On-line
You can work in your Agenda in the on-line or off-line mode. When you work
on-line, your Agenda is directly connected to the server. You can view
any other user's Agenda, and you receive Entries as soon as they are created.
Organizational Units
Organization units are groups within your company or organization, such
as Marketing, Sales or Management. These organization units are specified
by the administrator and can be used when searching the directory of users
(Tools | Search Directory).
Ownership
The creator of any Entry has ownership over it. No user may modify an Entry
owned by someone else, unless the owner has specifically granted that user
the Access Rights that allow him to do so.
Password
A password is a secret word or series of characters that allows users to
access their CorporateTime Agendas.
Priority
Give your Tasks Priority levels to indicate their relative importance.
Use letters or numbers, depending on the importance of the Task and the
convention used in your work environment.
Reconciliation
After working off-line, sign in to the server database to reconcile the
changes that you made to your Agenda while working off-line with the Entries
that are in the server's version of your Agenda. Reconciliation makes the
on-line and off-line versions of your Agenda consistent with each other.
Reminder
You can set Reminders in your Agenda to help you recall when an Entry is
set to occur. You can choose which type of Reminder you would like to receive,
when you would like to receive it and in which format.
Remote users
Remote users and Resources are on a different calendar server node from
the one that you are on.
Resources
Resources, such as rooms, equipment and vehicles have their own Agendas.
Reserve Resources by inviting them to Entries, just as you would with a
users.
Server
The server stores Agenda information. When you sign in to your Agenda,
you get access to the up-to-date Agendas of every other user through the
server.
Status Bar
The status bar is displayed at the bottom of the Agenda Views. It shows
helpful tips on menu items and icons, the current date and time, whether
your Reminders are turned on or off and your off-line/on-line status. You
can add the status bar to your Agenda View or remove it by going to View
| Status Bar.
Tasks
Use Tasks to keep track of any work you have to do. Link Tasks to your
Meetings, set start and due dates, Reminders and Priorities.
Tentative Meetings

tab. Meeting colors for Tentative Meetings are different than those of

Click and drag the black arrow to the desired point on the timeline, or
use the left and right arrow buttons to move backwards and forwards one
hour at a time.
Time slots
Time slots are the horizontal rows in your Day View and Week View. Customize
the size and duration of your time slots by using the Decrease Row Height
and Increase Row Height commands in the View menu.
